40 MW plant in development. Commercial operation targeted for 2030–31.

Training

The plant is also a school.

A new fuel system needs people who have already worked around it. TIPI Canada is developing the 40 MW plant as a for-profit training centre as well as a fuel plant. The point is a workforce that can carry industry into the 2030 and 2050 rules.

Curriculum is still being built. The trades in that curriculum are electrical, instrumentation, and pressure welding. We are in contact with colleges and trades bodies in British Columbia about where the teaching should sit.

Who it is for

  • Hydrogen and synthetic-fuel technicians

Operation of the hydrogen train, the synthesis units, storage, and load-out. The people who keep a plant of this kind running.

  • First responders, fire, and hazmat

How hydrogen and these liquid fuels behave, and how to respond on a site that stores them.

  • Drivers

Practical and road training for people who haul hydrogen and synthetic fuels.

  • Trades

Electrical, instrumentation, and pressure welding. The skilled trades the plant and the wider industry will hire.

Indigenous learners

The company is Indigenous-owned. The training program is being designed so Indigenous learners have a direct path into these jobs, alongside the other students the plant will take.

When

Training is planned to open with the plant, on the path to commercial operation in 2030–31. Programs can be sequenced so the first cohorts are ready as the equipment arrives, not years after.
